BAY COLONY CLUB CANDILEAKS (OR MEET SOME OF THE REAL CANDIDATES)

Just another BCC BOD Meeting
SAM SLOTA

Among many other actions taken against the interests of BCC owners:
  1. The Florida department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) has since 2002 repeatedly declared Slota in violation of Florida law.
  2. In 2002, Slota, then president of the Board, imposed a $384,000 special assessment on BCC owners.  In 2003, after a lengthy and expensive trial, the assessment was declared illegal in Broward County Court and BCC owners paid enormous legal fees.
  3. From 2002 to 2003 it is alleged by the then BCC manager and a then member of the BCC Board that Slota was soliciting kickbacks from vendors, abusing BCC's petty cash, stealing BCC property and embezzling.
  4. In 2008 a $120,000+ contract was signed by Slota for  "consultation" on our $2 million plus cable TV contract.  There was no Board discussion and no bids for this "consulting" work.  The remaining Board members said they were unaware of the contract and didn't know the details or the actual dollar amount.  Two Board members wisely resigned at that point.
  5. In 2009, Slota, then Board president, failed to produce 2008 year-end BCC financials.  A violation of Florida law and of a 2005 Consent Order which had imposed a $5,000 fine for the same (earlier) offense.
  6. During 2009 Slota has continuously harassed our Manager and office staff in an effort to get them to resign so more "pliable" replacements could be found.
  7. At the January 5, 2010 Board meeting Slota physically assaulted fellow Board member Wilbur Bullock.
  8. On February 4, 2010 Slota, along with Zubko, Lauth Shelton and Gustafson, signed their approval for the illegal $15,000 purchase of three pricey ice machines.  The same type of hidden expenditure used to hire a "TV consultant" in 2008.
    Lauth in Action
    GEORGE LAUTH

    Among other actions taken against the interests of BCC owners:

    1. Lauth has supported and voted for every action taken by  Zubko/Slota/Shelton.  Aside from this knee jerk support,  Lauth seems to be dozing through BOD meetings, with only one past unique contribution;
    2. Some time in the past, Lauth decided that a bicycle on a BCC porch was so unsightly it required stiff fines. Isn't it odd that BCC security has never been able to stop the almost immediate theft of any high-end bike left in one of our bike racks?
    * Are these the kind of people we want for our BOD?
    * What do you think?
    * Anything to add?
    * Post a comment.
    * Keep in mind that a comment with your real name has more impact.

    Charlie, much as I would like to sign my real name, since it DOES hold more "clout", I don't feel really safe in doing so.

    Re: George Lauth ........ he is probably the "compleat" Board member. He ALWAYS "goes with the power" and never makes waves. If they tell him "George vote YES" he votes "yes", and if they tell him "George vote NO", he votes "no". A PERFECT Board member for the quorum. Always dresses nicely, never screams or yells - and yes, it does seem as if he is nothing but a warm-bottomed seat-warmer.

    I hear tell that Sam has said he'll complain to DBPR if he doesn't get enough votes to get on the Board in this year's election. Apparently he feels that the letter sent out by Delaney and Viola "besmirched" his reputation!

    What a laugh! That letter simply told the truth. He doesn't need a letter to "besmirch" his reputation. EVERYONE knows his reputation couldn't be WORSE among the "thinking voters" of this community.

    Last year (2010) he was bottom of the heap with 63 votes; I doubt that there have been enough sales in here to up that total number of people who buy his lies - certainly not enough to put him back on the Board.

    In the 2009 Elections, he would NOT have made it onto the Board if he hadn't had the help of the 42 "bullet votes" that he set up with his few supporters.

    In 2007, there was NO election, so he simply walked in to fill a Board seat.

    In 2006, again he was bottom of the heap with only 134 votes; George Lauth got 191 votes that year (and missed out being on the Board by 5 votes).

    In 2004, again he was bottom of the heap with only 76 votes.

    Does it really sound like he has enough of a supporting public to put him on the Board? If he DOES get on, I will suspect a rigged election.

    The only candidates who received fewer votes than Sam Slota, were those who didn't run. Once again Sam received the lowest number of total votes, but what is frightening, is that he actually received almost 50% more votes this year than last. Goes to show that those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

    Maybe those half-again-as-much votes weren't kosher?
    Didn't you notice that this year's ballot package was slightly different from last year's strictly-controlled one?
    Oh yeah, this year's ballot was printed on the "safety" paper like last year's ballot, but TWO big diffrences:
    1. the extras this year were NOT kept under lock and key like last year's extra ballots, and
    2. there was NO assigned identifying number for each mail-back envelope tied to a specific sole voter, which means that ANYONE could vote for someone who normally didn't vote.
    Think about it.
    WAS this a kosher election this year? IF it wasn't, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out where it could have slipped off the track ... and who pushed it off! To paraphrase an old French saying ... "Cherchez l'homme" ... especially one with a vested interest!
