Well, here we are, early in the hurricane season and square in the sights of Irene, a potential category 4. Perhaps this and prior Boards of Directors should start explanations now about why they wasted time on trivia and personal agendas and vendettas instead of replacing our rusted out roof edge fasteners?
Come on guys, there has to be some lame excuse for spending time on firing people for not adequately kissing the hem of your robes or the deep concern and time spent deciding exactly where and when the Bay Colony Club mutts poop? Exactly what size should those garden bird houses be?
Or maybe they'd all be better off going into hiding?

Charlie - don't be so naive! Do you REALLY think this Board will do anything during their final five-plus months in office?
The Rules and Regs were finished and presented way back in May(?) and STILL nothing has been done about them.
They consider the Rec. Hall roofs to be more important (hahaha) - they now find that after all those costly renovations that the roofs on Recs. 3 and 4 have rotting wood - and the quotes are coming in to fix THEM - $31k-$35K for Rec. 3 and $7K-$8K for Rec. 4.
OUR roofs don't matter.
Plantings are STILL going on - unneeded and unnecessary - while building hedges still look like crap.
We need to be REAL careful when we elect NEXT years Board - we need to elect people who will get REAL things done.
We need a Treasurer who looks after the money instead of playing around with Rules and Regs and our multiple lawsuits and plugging his little golf cart into BCC electric when he condescends to visit.
I'm beyond being disgusted.
Got an excellent idea - let's burn down Recs. 3 and 4 (just like Rec.1) and we can get them rebuilt AND have the bathrooms done to ADA code without it costing us a penny!

Does anyone think this Board will do anything? They can't even pass new Rules and Regs (which don't cost anything!) - but when it comes to spending money on our residential buildings, watching grass grow is more exciting. We can waste money on MORE plantings (without making the residential buildings look any better), we can spend money on the Rec. Halls while our roofs and balconies quietly rot away, and we can watch a bitterly-divided Board cut off any member who doesn't toe the party line - but have they done anything to replace the missing Board member? It's just like last year's Board - without SEVEN Board members, you'll get a split vote every time and nothing will ever get passed. Looking more and more like the bunch we have in Washington - all talk and no action.
Yippee for some excitement here at dear ole BCC! It's been a too-quiet bust this summer.
Love your idea, Carl, but you forgot some important items: pillowcases (with eye-holes cut out for disguise), pitchforks (gotta have pitchforks! they go together with torches like bason with eggs) to dig up that crappy "garden" at the exit road bend, and spray paint - HOT PINK please! - to change those tasteless ghostly white flamingos into REAL tacky South Florida flamingos! Let's follow up with a big bonfire to burn the dug-up plants and we could have a weenie roast with those silly birdhouses!

Anonymous #2 raised an interesting point - about the Board not yet replacing a missing member. It's true that without a seventh member, there is the risk of a divided vote on Motions with nothing being passed - just like last year's six-member Board.
I can see only two reasons why there has not been a seventh member appointed:
1. No-one wants to be on such a lame-duck administration and the Board may have had "Thanks, but no thanks" as a reaction to proposals to join them, or
2. The members can't agree (a split vote again?) on someone that will be neutral and not support one faction against the other.
No wonder some of our residents are getting a little slap-happy (Carl and Anonymous 3) - it does get tedious waiting for this Board to DO SOMETHING. Why not have a little fun in the meantime? We need a few laughs in here.
Unless this Board knows someone who will shore up the roofs AND give those members a healthy kickback, our roofs will NOT be fixed. When a hurricane comes through, those new plantings will be spinning in the wind faster than Dorothy's house. I'll bet we'll even see a flamingo or two fly by!! This Board is too busy lying to our attorney to cover their behinds than to worry about us poor residents. Rules & Regs? For whom? The Board won't abide by them and if you're their friend you wont have to either, then the only ones left are us poor residents. I'm with Carl...hand me a torch.
Just out of curiosity .... where is all this additional money coming from for additional plantings? Wilbur authorized (against his Board's vote!) to give Joyous $1500 to "finish off the plantings on the exit road". Where did the additional money come from to put that whole slew of plants under the big tree at the corner of Building 9? Crotons need SUNSHINE to keep their color - some of this stuff is gonna die.
Is the Board simply writing blank checks out of our Maintenance fees for unlimited plantings?
When will it stop?
When will we see a proper Motion made at a Board Meeting to authorize this unnecessary expense, or will it be a "ratified" after-the-fact vote?
The Government can print all the money it wants, but WE don't have that perk - it comes from US and we aren't getting any real BENEFIT from all this expenditure.
Yeah - Joyous practically LIVES at the Board Office - unless she's out nagging the Maintenance to plant more and more.
Didn't Joyous mention at a Board meeting that people shouldn't be going in the Office all the time, bugging the Manager - to "let her do her job"? Maybe her job is to hold tea parties with Joyous every day, all day.

"Totally unsupported allegations were recently made about the Capital Improvements Committee by an anonymous contributor", however it would appear that our erstwhile BOD has decided that having a Capitol Improvements Committee, especially a committee with an engineer and a contractor is an unnecessary intrusion into the domaine of the board. Either that or the prospect of having qualified individuals available to advise the board appears to be unnecessary. So with this in mind, the BOD decided to relieve Gordon Houston and the rest of his committee from their duties. In other words, the committee has been scrapped for reasons obscured by the smoke and mirrors presently being utilized by our present BOD. It's enough to boggle one's mind.

I ALWAYS publish unsubstantiated allegations about me. Everybody needs a laugh now and then. However, I am not comfortable publishing unsubstantiated allegations of graft, kickbacks and other illegal activity leveled against other people, particularly when the contributor is anonymous.
I am trying to work out a reasonable policy on comments. i.e. "No personal attacks on a named or easily identifiable person that is not signed by a BCC owner."
Suggestions in this regard would be appreciated. Don't want to shut off grumbles, but also don't want to invite libel actions.

I am a BOD and learned about the same minute you did. Us BOD were not asked our opinion, it was a decision made TOTALLY BY BUD...THE PRESIDENT.
Considering that our board has gotten very little done (i.e. where are Rules & Regulations update?)they seem to need more, not less help. So, dissolve all committees?
BOD President serves at the will of the majority of the board. If a dictatorial president continues to stay in office, it's the board's responsibility.
